Science & Data
  • The NNOXX One device measures muscle oxygenation and nitric oxide levels. In addition, the NNOXX One High Performance Platform (HPP) also measures Oxygen Consumption/mVO2, Internal Training Load (ITL), acceleration, and skin temperature.

  • NNOXX One calibrates instantly to start tracking your NO levels during your workout.

  • Exercise works by increasing nitric oxide (NO) levels in your body, widening your blood vessels and improving blood flow to your heart, brain, and muscles. Muscle oxygenation (SmO2) is the level of oxygen in muscles, and the best indicator of exercise intensity. Together, NO and SmO2 are the best way to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of your workout. With NNOXX One, you finally have a way to ensure you are making the most of your workout.

  • VO2 is a measure of the total amount of oxygen used by the body for fuel. Nitric oxide is the main regulator of blood flow and oxygen delivery to working muscles. Thus, increases in nitric oxide are a driver of increased VO2. NNOXX One also measures muscle oxygenation (SmO2), which, unlike VO2, measures the amount of oxygen delivered to muscle tissue and provides valuable insight into how muscles are functioning. Nitric oxide and SmO2 give athletes an indicator of when they need to rest or reduce their exercise intensity to prevent fatigue and maintain performance. VO2, however, measures total body oxygen use and does not directly quantify muscle performance and fatigue.

  • Nitric oxide levels increase during exercise and go down during rest. The rate and magnitude of these respective increases/decreases will depend on a number of factors including the type of exercise performed, the intensity of exercise, and fitness level of the user.

  • If users follow guidance provided as part of the NNOXX One platform, they should be able to see an increase in their nitric oxide levels during even the first exercise, as it is dynamic. The key to ongoing and consistent improvement is ongoing and consistent use.

  • NNOXX One measurements are instantaneous so as soon as you begin your workout, you’ll see oxygen being utilized in the working muscles and you could use this to guide your pacing in real time or use this to pace your strength and conditioning.

  • You can use NNOXX for any form of exercise from endurance training to strength training. Because the NNOXX One device is not waterproof, it should not be used while swimming.

  • We recommend that users speak with their physician regarding the use of supplements and before making changes to a supplement routine.

  • Adipose tissue may eventually come into play since it's an optical measurement. However, our findings indicate that the measurements aren't affected by body fat within the wide range we've tested.

  • You can tell if someone is occluding based on their muscle oxygenation trends which NNOXX One measures faster than any other device on the market.

  • Through unique biosensors, NNOXX One can measure someone’s muscle oxygenation and nitric oxide levels when it is placed on a muscle group like a leg or arm.

  • Resting muscle oxygenation varies among individuals and is influenced by factors such as the partial pressure of oxygen (pO2) and temperature in the muscle being monitored. Under normal conditions at average muscle temperatures, the partial pressure of oxygen (pO2) in skeletal muscle is around 40 mmHg. Consequently, most people will exhibit resting muscle oxygenation (SmO2) values between 50-70%.

  • Unlike readiness and recovery scores from other fitness apps, NNOXX looks at your current physiological function to provide the most accurate prediction available for your immediate exercise activity.

  • NNOXX is capable of untangling aerobic system and local muscle recovery, providing two separate readiness scores, that when combined can be used to generate more meaningful feedback for adjusting your workouts.

  • NNOXX's performance Readiness Assessment captures a person’s readiness to exercise, with first-of-kind readiness scores, resulting in faster and greater performance improvements.

  • The Readiness Assessment is intended to be used following your warmup, but before you begin your workout, or as a standalone warmup before you begin your workout.

Glossary
  • Muscle oxygenation (SmO2) is the percentage of blood in the muscle that is carrying oxygen. For more information on this, please click here.

  • Oxygen consumption (mVO2) is the amount of oxygen used by the muscles, being monitored by the NNOXX One wearable, during exercise.

  • Internal Training Load (ITL) is the amount of work performed by muscles during exercise. ITL is a new way to track load and exertion during exercise. The more work your muscles do, the higher your ITL.

  • Nitric oxide (NO) is the body’s natural regulator for oxygen delivery to blood and muscle tissue. Nitric oxide levels in the blood increase during physical activity which helps to deliver more blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the exercising muscles. In turn, this can help improve endurance, increase strength, and reduce fatigue and metabolic stress.

  • Power Index is a biomarker of speed, power, and muscle oxidative capacity (i.e., the muscles maximal capacity to use oxygen to power activity).

  • Economy (found on the Readiness Assessment) is an indicator of movement economy, aerobic fitness, and energy efficiency.

  • Aerobic Index is a biomarker of aerobic endurance, recovery capacity and cardiovascular fitness.

  • Muscle Readiness is a daily indicator of sprint/power performance and local muscle recovery. A high aerobic index means your ability to perform in sprint/power-based workouts or events is near your peak potential.

  • Aerobic Readiness is a daily indicator of endurance performance and intra-workout recovery. A high aerobic readiness means that your ability to perform in an endurance-based workout or event, is near your peak potential.
